The importance of literacy in the classroom cannot be understated. Reading is a multifaceted process that develops only with practice. There are certain aspects of reading, such as fluency and word recognition. However, at the same time reading comprehension should be emphasized in the process. Students can parrot words on a page, but if they don't understand what they are reading they will not be able to make predictions about what will happen next, monitor their understanding of content, sequence of characters, or connect what they are reading to their past experiences and knowledge.
In order to improve my students' literacy skills I will be implementing the Daily 5/CAFE strategies in my classroom. Throughout the course of the year I will be posting diverse comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanded vocabulary strategies that you can help your child with. If you have any questions in regards to these strategies please contact me.
